Small daily checks that help site teams identify unstable bases, missing braces and unsafe access before work begins.
Scaffolding should be inspected before each working shift and after any event that may affect its stability. A short, consistent inspection helps the site team identify simple problems before workers begin using the structure.
Check the ground and base
Confirm that the ground remains firm and that base plates or adjustable base jacks are seated correctly. Look for settlement, water accumulation, disturbed packing or signs that a support has shifted.
Check standards, ledgers and bracing
Walk around the scaffold and check that vertical standards remain plumb. Ledgers, transoms and diagonal braces should be present in the required positions and their connections should be properly secured.
Inspect platforms and access
- Working platforms should be complete and free from unnecessary gaps.
- Steel challi, planks and boards should be properly supported.
- Ladders and access points should be secured.
- Guardrails and toe boards should remain in position.
- Loose materials should not obstruct the working area.
Review site conditions
Strong wind, heavy rain, nearby excavation and vehicle movement can change site conditions quickly. Stop access and arrange a competent inspection whenever the scaffold may have been affected.
A checklist supports good supervision, but it does not replace an inspection by a competent person or the safety requirements applicable to your project.
